Do you try to improve on skills and tasks you aren’t good at or don’t have the aptitude for? Maybe that’s the wrong approach.
If you are a top class football Striker why should you learn to be a Goalkeeper? If you are a rugby Fly Half, do you really want to be a Prop Forward?
No! Strikers and Fly Halves are wanted for their abilities in those roles. They need to concentrate on improving their striking and fly half skills. They don’t want to waste their time learning something they don’t need to know.
The same goes for any business. One of our clients said to us, “I’m rubbish at organising an office – so I employ someone to do it for me. I don’t know the first thing about bookkeeping, so I let you do it. What I am really good at is ensuring the work gets done within budget and keeping customers happy.”
You can’t fault the attitude and this particular client has more than doubled his profit in a year, since he looked at how he was spending his time and decided to concentrate on what he does best.
We all do it. I recently spent a lot of time trying to sort out an electrical problem – then got an electrician to do it. Ten minutes later the job was done. Lesson learned – leave it to an expert. But, we do the electrician’s accounts and we are expert in that.
It is a lesson which the billionaires of this world learn early, although it takes us “normal people” longer to realise (and even longer to put into action) – “CONCENTRATE ON WHAT YOU ARE GOOD AT”. That is what will make you money.
So why should you consider using Central Business Services? We are good at what we do – bookkeeping, accounts, tax, strategic business advice, payroll etc, but rubbish at most other things. You are, hopefully, good at whatever you do – but probably weak on the things we do well. Let us save you time by doing our thing, leaving you with time to concentrate on running your business and making money.
Mo Farah is very weak at shot put. Should he spend time improving his shot put skills – or concentrate on running better?
